ABOUT
33 Grad Nord 44 Grad
Ost is based on a
newspaper article
about the conflict in Iraq. The work acts both as a newspaper and as a poster. It
developed from a
discussion about the
use and function of text, photography
and illustration in
newspapers. The content is related to
the iraq war.

The title 33 Grad Nord
44 Grad Ost describes
the coordinates for
Iraq on the world map

CONTENT
In page one articles are
selected in which
victims of the war are
mentioned.

In page two all the
numbers and names
which refer to the
death of people from
page one are taken out
and a white
space/clearance
remains. These missing
numbers and names
can be seen on page
one
. Neither the
numbers and names
have a meaning on
their own nor the text.

Page three and
page four are focused
on the topic of
photography in
newspapers.

In page five each of the participants wrote
a poem using the
words from one
specific article. Every
poem reflects a
different sight of war.
.

MORE CONTENT
Page six is influenced
by the common
comparison between
war and games. By
using repetition and
documentary material
the relevance of the
individual in war is
questioned. This issue
is enhanced by
reducing the man to
his identity in the
newspaper photograph
(a soldier, a crying
man, a dead body, etc).

Page seven developed
from an interest in military action and
strategy. It is based on
an original photo.
Replacing the
character of the
original form with a
technical drawing in
order to concentrate on certain elements
and increase their
importance.

Page eight is describing the source
which was used. It
function as the last
page and also as the
cover.
